It looks like we’re heading down under, as it was announced that the next map coming to Rainbow Six Siege will be Outback. It will come as part of Operation Burnt Horizon which will be the first of the Season 4 set.
Just a few days before the announcement of Outback, we were teased with information on the 2 upcoming SASR Operators. In their news post, it is noted that there will be an Attacker and Defender, which isn’t all that surprising but they do mention gadgets. The pair of Operators has been described as “Two old mates from way back” with information giving insight into each – “One’s a stoic Attacker who’s just there to get the job done, and the other is a quick-witted Defender who’s in it for the guts and glory.”
We’ve been given a bit of back-story about the map; it seems that a passing nuclear convoy has had to make a stop outside the service station after a high stakes chase. This has caused civilians to make a run for it and the Rainbow team have had to be called in. The map is split into 3 different sections – a garage, a motel and a restaurant.
Assistant Level Design Director, Jacques Wong makes it clear that the aim is to emphasise the importance of decision making, and that they had referred to current maps Oregon and Clubhouse. Although doors between sections will seem limited, Wong says that Roamers will still be able to “create new paths by destroying walls, and there’s always the option of changing floors as a flanking strategy. It’s a medium-sized map, so players won’t need to go far to find alternative routes.”
We can expect a full reveal of what’s to come on the Rainbow Six Twitch channel on February 17th, live from the Six Invitational.
